Christies Restaurant and Brasserie. St Peters Port

It would need to be more than good to justify St Peter Port prices IMO, bearing in mind their prices do not include 17.5% for VAT as on the mainland. Fillet steak at £15.95 sounds OK until you realise the devil is in the detail and veggies are an extra charged at £2.95 a piece per person, a standard bit of stealth pricing throughout St Peter Port restaurants. Word on the grapevine says a sort of price fixing mafia exists which would explain why the same meal at one of our previous St PP picks jumped 33% in price across all items including the wine between September 2005 and May 2006, they even left the original prices on their website as proof but I had the bill in our log to compare anyway. Nowadays we eat out in France and just buy good shellfish/fish in Guernsey to cook on board. The HM followed with a 33% price increase too last year, so we now stay at anchor outside in Havelet or off Sark/Herm, if forced in harbour by weather we will stay a day less. We used to be big spenders ashore in Guernsey, greed will lose them that now.
