Choice of Sea Toilet?

Had a Lavac in previous boat for 13 years, never had any problems. Current boat owned for 20 years has a Lavac Zenith, only blocked once when we had teenage girls aboard. A diplomatic word prevented a repeat.
And in case someone raises the point, paper and all goes down ours.
They just keep working.

Our Jabsco also eats everything we throw or otherwise deposit in it, though it has to be said, Milady is frugal with TP; I'm not sure how the poor thing* would cope with a lodger we once had who went through more than a roll a day.

*The bog. Milady just grumbled a bit and doubled the budget for toilet paper.

I don't know what people do with their Jabscos but ours has been in regular use, mostly with three-month cruises since 2003 when I had to replace one that had suffered a weed blockage, when the mountings were found to have cracked due to overtightening by the builders. Since then I have changed the piston for a locking version about ten years ago but haven't needed to changed anything since other than a joker valve. I have only used a Lavac on other people's boats and didn't like it much, but wouldn't reject a boat on that account.

So does a hole in the ground keep working but that doesn't make it pleasant to use. Sailing doesn't have to be all hair shirts!

And yes paper always goes down my Tecma. Wet wipes defeat it as they will defeat any marine loo but that's about it.

The only things jabco has in its favour is cost and ubiquity.
They are ugly, difficult to keep clean with lots of nooks and crannies and the electric ones wake everyone on board.
Lavacs with their seals and pipe work are even worse in my opinion. Dreadful contraptions.
Both are generally favoured by the people who own them which is a good sign however.

No one who has had a tecma would ever go back to either though.
Easy clean one piece china like a domestic loo. All pipes hidden within the china so no nooks and crannies to get skanky.
Super quiet - no louder than the domestic water pump.
Pricey at about £1000 but you pay way more for some things on a boat that you use far less often. Worth every penny.
I will check Tecma out thx

Didn't Lavacs at one time have transparent lids?

I have seen black ones and white ones but not transparent.

If the vacuum took too long to release you could open the belad hole a little or fit a tee and a pneumatic push button into the flush feed pipe to release the vacuum quicker.

My :poop::poop::poop:s worth ,
2 Jabesco electrical toilets 3 years no issues , a bit noisy , but no nosier than huffing and puffing a pump , swearing when it goes pete tong , and flooding the shower bay IMHO ofc
