Now, now, there's no need to be spiteful - just 'cos it takes you a long time to get over a couple of nights with the boys, and a few hours at Mme La Plumes, you shouldn't take it out on me!! How was the journey back by the way, or is it all still a bit hazy!!???

So I was probably underestimating things. I don’t know whether that’s good or bad!
Good - The boat was handling it well, and I felt comfortable.
Bad - False sense of security. Maybe I should have had a reef in the Main.

All boats are different - but I would say that if the boat felt comfortable then you were fine as you were.

I reef when either
(a) The boat will be more controllable or comfortable with less sail set (especially managing heal and weather helm)
(b) I think that if I don't reef now I may have problems managing if the wind increases further

On Bedouin (a) almost always happens first.

It always does. It's even worse when you're coming back, it seems to take for ever to get bigger.

on saturday it looked quite nice. I made it to Cherbiourg very easily, in about 15 minutes from gatwick, tho i did continue the journey at 20,000 feet or so. I was at a sea skool nr Gib and passed YM lat week so it was worth it.
