If anyone is after value for money bins, Just bought a pair of 7X50's from Nauticalia.............................£29.95 (not a misprint)
They even come with a case and neckstrap!
They are excellent value for money. Bought mine in their Lymington shop.

Yep. That's where I first saw them. I was in Lymington yesterday, so I had a look and was impressed enough to buy a pair.

They sound like the ones that have been cropping up at street markets in the last year or so (Lymington Sat and Christchurch Mon)

I bought a pair and they are certainly very good optically. There's a lot of plastic in the construction though and mine have got a bit misaligned on a couple of occasions, mostly in the hot bit (remember it?) this summer and I think it would pay to keep them out of the sun.

At that price it's worth buying 2 pairs - one to take apart to see how to readjust the alignment. It's all in the front lens mount but easy to knacker first try!

I bought a pair of 'marine' binoculars off ebay. They had a coated lens which makes daylight use really good, brightening the view consdierably

Alas I found out too late that the red coating on the lens made red lights virtually invisible.

As we all know, the ability to see a red light at night is fundamental.

Now looking for a non coated lens for night work, preferably 'non-marine'

Re: Boring I know...

Having had a right going over by milltech for advocating two pairs of cheap binos rather than one pair of relatively expensive "marine bins" I conducted comparative tests with borrowed bins against my Dixons cheapies.

Results:

In bright sunny conditions, marginal advantage to marine.

In low light ,marine won hands down.

At night, marine the winner.

Ease of use, marine won again, and the compass was handy.

Conclusion:

Milltech is absolutely right, and I am not worthy for doubting him/forums/images/icons/frown.gif

re: http://www.on-line-marine.com/

being Bynolyt SeaRanger II 7x50 Compass Binocular for £123.36 ex. VAT

They look good value for money. How are they for us spectacle wearers? I've been spoilt as I have a pair of Zeiss binoculars that I use for deer stalking and they are optically superb and also provide a very generous field of view despite my wearing glasses.
