Hello everyone!
I am looking for a mooring spot for my future boat. I live in Erith.
Does anyone knows a cheap and also a good way to keep a boat, lets say around 25 feet long?
You'll have my thanks for it.:)

It is one right here in Erith, 10 min walk from where I live, I was very excited going there but became very sad hearing that everything is taken there. On a first search, nearby ,on the web I've found only very expensive ones.
They ask for more than a thousand a year.:(

Not close to you, but my local club has trot moorings for iro £300.00/Year (on the Swale.) There's also a couple of other yacht clubs on the Medway, on trots, for similar money.
I'm not sure you'd find a marina for under £1000.00 p.a

Good luck!

Thanks! £300 sounds great but I am not sure I can find it on Medway. I have the feeling that the area is very expensive.:(

and now for a way out idea south of England by 20000km. The futire boat is a 30ft Viking all set up for living on. The mooring is a swing mooring on Swan River. The mooring licence is purchased with the boat as a package around the 15to 17k pounds. (the mooring might be worth 8k) The owner poor guy has migrated to UK so keen to sell. The mooring costs 300 squid per year licence fees plus mandatory proffessional inspection every 2 years. The main attraction is the antipodean weather to deal with UK winter. ie min 18degrees last night max 32.
of course the commute is a dilly but for retired folk well worth the trips. good luck olewill not (really serious.)

I am sure it's a good deal but I am a beginner , actually I don't have a clue about this passion.
So what I am looking at the moment is a much smaller investment for now. Later on I am sure that it will be to take it in consideration.
Anyway it worth to have a look if you have some pictures, somewhere, please.
All the best!

Here's one on the Medway you could try, limited access time though: http://www.lhyc.org.uk/
And, my local on the Swale: http://www.kingsferryboatclub.co.uk/
Another cheaper option on the Swale: http://www.swale.gov.uk/harbour/

Please note that I have no personal experience of these clubs, it's just a couple of the options I found when I was looking a Year or so ago.

Many thanks Murv!
I'll have a look on it. I'll try to get in touch with the nearest first but I'll keep also the option with your club as long as now I know I'll find at least one nice man there.
The link with kingsferryboatclub doesn't seem to work now. Who knows, maybe later....
Can you please tell me what do you have to do and pay to be member of your club and what do you get for it? Or where can I find the information , because as I said the link is not working....

Not sure why that link isn't working, it works when I click it. Just try "Kingsferry boat club" in Google, you should be able to find it.
Contact details here anyway http://msba.org.uk/?page_id=465 just give them a ring. I'm sure, from memory, that the trot was around £300.00/Year, and there's a £150.00 joining fee. My memory isn't great but I'm sure it came in at under £500.00 for the first Year, anyway (excluding buying the ground tackle)

As I say, I'm not a member at this club. I did enquire there, and spoke to a couple of the guys, they seem friendly and very helpful, I just decided that a trot mooring wasn't for me just yet what with loading the family on and off the the boat from a small dingy.
You do have to lay your own mooring though, but they assist with that and advise you where to purchase the ground tackle from.
So, you won't meet me there, but I'm always up there walking the dog so I can at least keep an eye on your boat for you!

There are a couple of other small yacht clubs on the Medway, Google will bring them up but you have to hunt around as the small clubs obviously don't have large flashy web sites.

Certainly at Kings Ferry, it is (in the words of the mooring master) a cheap mooring, I don't know what their requirements are for work parties. But, with most clubs, you are expected to help out as after all, it's what a club is all about!

hope this help,

Chris

Thank you very much, Chris. It's sure helped a novice like me.
I'll let you know when I'll get around, maybe we'll meet...
Thanks again and all the best!

My pleasure! hope you get something sorted out, hopefully see you out and about soon :)
All the best to you,

Chris

Hi There

Hoo Ness YC http://www.hooness.org.uk/index.php has all you would need with easy road access from Erith. Various mooring options so should be something to suit your budget. Web site gives most of the info you might need but feel free to pm me if you have any questions or need an intro.

Many thanks Aurai!
I had a look on the website and the prices are for sure much closer with my expectations.
I can't understand why I couldn't find you before. I've spent two days "digging" on internet to find a better option.
I love the Hoo idea. I like the place too. I've been there I think a couple of weeks ago, having a small job there. Probably I'll go there soon again and I'll get in touch with you , if you can or someone else from the club.
I feel peaceful now and free to look for a good boat to buy.
Thanks again and I'll get in touch soon.

+1

Plenty of clubs about with their own mud moorings.. mines looking for members (Chichester)

Thank you Fantasie 19 for the invitation but I think Chichester is a bit far from where I live. Hoo is much closer for example. But I wouldn't mind to buy a nice boat from there if I'l find...!?

moorings are about the same at us, Erith Yacht Club

(also you havent picked a good time of year to join a club. EYC will be more vibrant and active when the weather is better again)

most all boats are out on the dry now or if they arent they will be soon

for swing moorings - £432

to add, theres also thurrock yacht club, greenwich YC, Gravesend YC near by (sold my seawych to a member at gravesend YC, they have mud moorings)

Hello again Woozy-UK!
I didn't forget your promise to take me in one of your trips next season!:D
Yes, I know about the price at EYC and obviously I'd prefer here because is 10 min walk from where I live. But as I've told you, one of the guys from there said that everything is taken there. Or it was just a misunderstanding?
If it was just a mistake I'd come there immediately to reserve or book somehow, if is possible, a place for my future boat.
You probably know better how things works there! I'd dare to ask you to help me with this matter , if I don't ask too much...
Anyway many thanks and
kind regards!...

The winters actually quite a good time to check clubs out. If there's a bar - like at Hoo Ness - there'll be people there to talk to who are taking a break from their laying up/fitting out. If not, like at Lower Halstow, there will probably still be people about if they haven't decamped to the local.

I've been members of both clubs, and like most these days, I'm sure they would welcome new members.
Of these two, LHYC is definitely the cheaper, but probably not as convenient for you as HNYC.

There are others on the Medway, see the Members list at http://msba.org.uk/ . SEGAS, Upnor SC, and Medway CC would also probably suit you.
