Hi, need to haul out my 34' yacht (6' draught) for 2 weeks and crane mast off and on, to get ready to go down to med.

Just had quotes from Gosport boatyard and Southsea marina of around 620. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Anyone know of anywhere noticably cheaper? I was going to head down to Falmouth area straight after haul out anyway on way to Biscay, so another option is to head west, then haul out if it works our much cheaper to do it down in Devon area.

Any suggestions of places to try?

Thanks!

Around £80 each way at Emsworth Yacht Harbour (for mast) when I last checked. Why do you need to take it down *before* going to the canals? Believe it's only about £20 to take down at Calais. Last paid around £50 at Le Havre.

Sorry, misread and didn't notice you also wanted to take the boat out, so will be more, but not as bad as your quote.

There is a mast crane in QAB Plymouth. I haven't got the invoice handy but it was about £80 total for the mast on and off last July.

If you can get a cheap boat lift around there too it might be worth while.

Going via biscay not canals, mast down is for rerig, rewire, and other maintenence.

Fees in Gosport / southsea break down to around 290 for lift out + back in, 180 for mast down and back up, and 30 a week ashore, all plus vat.

Thanks

I'm in almost exactly the same position as you - same starting point, same destination, same route. I'm also getting prices for a lift out to do anodes and antifoul sometime before the end of June - if you'd you'd like to PM me I will happily share the research I've done so far at Hamble Point, Falmouth Marina, and Mylor and will be getting some other prices. I'm 42', though, but it should be pro rata.

Thanks - Southdown can't help me because their maximum crane weight is 9 tonnes though they sounded very nice to deal with. My gross weight is nearer 18 tonnes. I've left a message with Huggins to get back to me but their website says they have craneage for 20 tonnes so that sounds hopeful /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks, Huggins looks interesting, worked out at about 230 for me based on the website prices! Will look into it further.

Any other suggestions still welcome.

Quay Lane in Hardway (Gosport) charged me £80 for mast up.. another £100 for lift out, scrub, and crane onto (their) cradle. So double it and you would be about right. You can phone them on 02392 524214

You could try KB Boatpark (023 92833166) on the Camber, Portsmouth side opposite Gosport marina. They have a 50T crane and cost me just under £400 for a 39ft/15T lift out/lift in last year, plus £34/week on the hard.
