Well 10's of 1000's of people are using them to very good effect.

Did you not hear about the 'main Two' getting fined Millions of Euro for their Price fixing that is why the others are so cheap.

I have both an eberspacher and a chinaspacher. The Chinese jobbie is good, very very good for the money, but let’s not get carried away. It is nowhere near as good, let alone better, than an Eber. Build quality, materials used and even usability are all much lower. For £100 they are absolutely brilliant, but an eber (webasto etc) are definitely worth paying more for. Whether they are worth over a grand more is debatable, and I would say not, but they are in a different league.

I was/am trying to point out that the videos explains about using fresh air which then stops any build up of condensation as opposed to recirculating heat which some folk do and end up with condensation / moisture.
the Guy in the video has done his home work and put it into practice.
 
I fitted a Chinese heater in my boat a couple of years ago and it's been fine. There are a couple of Facebook sites where they are discussed in great detail, also on YouTube. Mostly fitted in camper vans, but a few in boats. I fitted decent hose clips, proper marine exhaust outlet and Eberspacher exhaust pipe, well insulated. Also copper tubing for the fuel line as per inland waterways regs. Insulated all the hot air ducting etc. and the overall cost was about £350 - MUCH cheaper than the Eber/Webasto units. The difficult part was fitting all the hot air ducting. Spares are very cheap as well. Most problems are with poor installations.
 
I honestly think they will always be a bit of a divide granted the Chinese versions are very cheap there are safe providing that you only use the actual heater unit the rest that comes with it like the exhaust pipe etc is garbage especially on a boat install and as long as the install is done correctly
That said this guy has done a strip down of a lavaner diesel heater which apparently Webasto was going to set up a factory in China and the Alleged "Managers / People" carried it on - so food for thought a better build heater still made in China

As for Webasto / Eber without going into the politics that they were both heavily fined for price fixing I think realistically (and this is my opinion) if I had a newish boat then I would probably opt for one of these over the Chinese variant but as a good option the chinese comes close as for any breakdowns / corrosion after a couple of years use - for £100 just buy another unit and swap it out everything else like ducting is already there
 
BP's already admitted these Chinese heaters need a little work to make them safe. What worries me is that people will use these appliances without any consideration and there seems little or no oversight to ensure poisonings dont happen. My unit didn't even come with a manual!

Regarding log burners anything greater than 5kw has to have a secondary air supply to comply with building regs. I would imagine these need a similar amount of air kw for kw for complete combustion. An exhaust pipe is under pressure where a chimney induces a draught so the former poses a greater CO risk should a leak develop. A fixed installation by nature lends itself to better and safer routing of the exhaust avoiding the possibility of CO accumulation. Having it in a confined area is like having a car blower set to recirculation. No fresh air is coming in from outside. Wouldn't want one in a tent! Maybe me "of all people" am just being stupid here?

The noise is another matter, maybe not too bad for heating a garage or similar when working which is why I bought one. For habitation areas one would need to turn the tv up or wear earplugs to get some sleep!

The heat is localised and not evenly distributed. I remember finding my wife's melted Croc footwear one time in a caravan lol. Blown air heating simply isn't as comfortable as the Alde wet system we currently enjoy.

Fined by the European Commision…that’s another corrupt organisation if ever I’ve seen one so you can view that how you wish.

what should have happened is the Chinese and the idiots illegally importing their heaters should have been fined but strange they didn’t, funny how the powers that be will not pick on the one they know there’s no money to take from. Then there’s the copyright breach, the Chinese didn’t spend millions on R & D, like everything else they let someone else pay that then steal it off them, I’m not one to support this kind of behaviour and like has been said before there’s more to life than money.

Then there’s the insurance issue, when I asked a broker he said they wouldn’t cover in case of and illegally imported heater and any installer would not be covered carrying out such work.

Your boat, your choice.

Which company makes your heater? How do I know that if I were to buy a ‘cheap Chinese heater’ it would be from the same factory or even within 1000 miles of the factory yours was from? I don’t and yet someone is prepared to buy a thing from China that they have no idea where or whom made it, based on the fact that others have bought similar things from the same country, and then fit it on a boat. No thanks. If there was a Chinese brand as such, or known factory that made these then I’d feel very differently but it appears the recommendation is simply a cheap diesel heater ‘from China’. Madness.

You don’t seen to understand that countless people have bought these, used then, tested them and found them to be very good. That is the principal of real world testing by a huge number of people. Far better than blind brand loyalty

You obviously have not tried one. I have and now have 3 in various applications the first 2 are performing very well. This one needs more time.

not sure why this is madness. I think not trying things is where the real madness lies.

I dont have a dog in this fight - but are these heaters being illegally imported? what (UK) law is being broken by buying one?

Its called Ebay. Who would know and so many products are available I dont care. I prefer to buy and test. Others just seem to like to quote rules and regulations and feel good about themselves because they think they know. Dont think you can get dogs on ebay though

Why don't you just get yours out of the box and try it. You have loads of time I am sure
