Cheap boat Anyone ?

Bit expensive for boat that age ?
Around £100K for T37 seems the bench mark ?

We used to know that boat when it was moored in PHM about 25 years ago.

Quite right. She was owned for many years by Vic and Kaye Penning. They were active PHYC members and the boat was cruised extensively. A very unusual and one-off Bates Starcraft. Nice boat if someone has the time and money to keep her that way.

Plenty around at our price and having visited half of them they just don't match up to spec. We've only had it a year and have spent 11K on it, so we sell at a loss already.
Just hope Trotwood will be worth it!

I remember Kays Venture extremely well, we were moored behind her for many years on pontoon 1A at Penton. Vic used to keep her beautifully, I was out with my Dad on my boat last year when we saw Kays Venture and my Dad was really sad about how she looked now.

When were you moored behind KV on 1A ?

We used to moor our Freeman 30 on a little pontoon on its own right near 1A , this would be 25 years ago though. I've some wonderful memories of growing up in PHM , playing in 'the pit' in the dinghies , BBQ's at the clubhouse , and wandering round to the other side of the marina by the trimmers ( felt like the other side of the world ! ) , fishing for perch under the visitors pontoon and playing up the weirstream outside the clubhouse.

Do you know Nick Slater ?

Do you know Nick Slater ?

I've known Nick for years. And his dad who had the Princess 32.

Perhaps we ought to start a Penton Hook reminiscence thread :D

BTW Gloriana was at Penton yesterday. When SWMBO will let me borrow her camera I'll upload some pictures. Was nice to be able to get on board her.

Possible you might know me then.

I remember Taura ( i think that was her name ) , their P32 also.

Nick and I won the 'Cygnet Shield' for dinghy handling in 1985 , i have a plaque and everything ! :D

Honestly , so many of my formative years were spent at PHM , i really think that is where my love of the river was kindled.

Quite possibly. Dad had boats at Penton from 1967/8 until about 1982/3. My first boat appeared there in 1987/8 and I'm still there!

Should be heading down river in a couple of weeks assuming my transit ID arrives. I'll let you know when we're coming and see if you're around.

Yes I know Nick Slater, the Princess 32 was called Taura and I knew his parents Tony and Celia.

If you won the Cygnet Shield in 1985 then we probably do know each other!

As I was certainly there then we had boats at PH from 1982 to probably 1997

Lady H - Seamaster 813
Ginnala - Sealion 42 (moored behind Kays Venture)
Baby G - Birchwood 25

I used to take my red speed boat round the pits :D

I spent my growing up years at PH and in the club house. Dad was Commodore in 1991. I was at PHYC on Sunday and a number of old faces were there.

Everyone remembers my sister she was the tall, slim, blond one - Louise. Ask Nick as I am sure he remembers her! :p

TL - what boat did you have? We must know each other.

Now Kids you would make useless detectives....

Sulley you went to St Kats so you knew Paulina Hamilton and Charlie a couple of years below.

Tedd Lock (ok this is a guess) they used to moor at Tedd and unload beer from trips to France before heading to PH as they lived just up the road...Dont ask me how I know this...

Right or wrong?
