I like to restore my Navionics charts but because I brought them from apple and now I wish to restore them on my new Samsung I not able to because when I purchased them I used my hotmail address but google play would except hotmail and I can only log on to google play if I have a gmail address which of course Navionics don't recognise, which I done understand as I am log onto Navionics own web site using the email address that I brought the chart in the first place.
Moving on .
So the question is does any know a way I can use a hotmail address with google play?
Buy the. Way guys Navionics has been a no use at all
there just not interested the only advice is to buy a new set of chart using google play .
What does surprise me is when I did try to restore then I got a 15 days free trail and when I open it , it had all my way points ?

As far as I'm aware, you must buy separate licences for android devices and iOS ones,

Exactly so. Assuming that you're talking about the Navionics app rather than updating Navionics charts for a plotter. Nothing to do with the email address rather that there's no linkage between Apple and Android versions of Navionics.

So basically there no way I can restore the app with my charts that I brought for my apple on a Samsung tab .

Ok thanks .

Just on the question of emails , is there anyway I can log on to google play store using a hotmail account? ,
I tried adding it as an extra account but it won't do it .

Hi Vic .... I just asked Alex who is sitting next to me in Kremik whilst this thunderstorm passes, hopefully .... and he says that you must use a gmail address and that it's very restrictive to try and use an Android device without a Gmail address. However, it's a two minute job to create your own Gmail address using Chrome and you don't have to use it for ordinary email if you don't want to. :)

Hi Richard
I have a gmail address , the problem is unless I can use the email address that I brought them on in the first place which is my hotmail then I can't restore them .
Oh well just wanted it as a back up

I log on to Google Play with a non-Gmail address, never occurred to me that I couldn't.
FYI, Memory Map have always been excellent transferring licences for me when I struggled, even honouring ancient licences from a Dell Windows PDA.

Actually, those pages say you CAN sign up with a non-Gmail email account (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/27441). However, most people do create a sacrificial Gmail account for this purpose. You have a Google account if you've ever signed up for a Google service (as opposed to just using the search engine).

OK .... we're reading it differently. I read it that you can have notifications sent to a different email address but you cannot use Google Play .... use as in buy something which is what we're discussing ... without a gmail account.

Richard

read all that but still couldn't , I thing you can add a Hotmail address so you can get your Hotmail email through Gmail .
every time I try and add a Hotmail address it just say it wont do it .

Surely you can download the app in the playstore using gmail and then log in to Navionics using your Hotmail account?

I had Navionics on my iphone and I bought a Samsung tablet and innocently thought I could transfer it over. Not possible. Navionics essentially regard the apple and android versions as 2 distinctly different products which you have to buy separately.

They are two distinct products with defferent maintenance issues - Apple issue updates most months making them have to ensure the app works every time.

Vic you have at last seen sence and left Apple behind:disgust:

The reason why all your waypoints also down loaded is that you are being tracked by google. If you don't want them to do it you have to tell the APP not to allow the bit where it can share your location.

A rather lame excuse from Navionics for charging us on the double IMO. For the end user it’s the same app and their issues with their hosts shouldn’t have to concern or cost us.

Why do you say that it's the same app? One app is written for iOS and the other for Android and they are totally different.

It would be like buying a program that runs on Windows and then complaining that it doesn't run on Mac OS or Linux.

I understand all that Richard BUT yes there a but :),
so why can I down load A 15 days free app with all my way-point and comment , in which case nav know it me, that I all ready paid for it but wont let me down load the charts ,
its not the app that a problem I can get the app free , the issue is because I cant log on with the same email address that I brought the chart with in the first place Nav wont let me restore it,
be interesting if any one here brought their chart tho Apple using a gmail address if they then log on with a non Apple tab and tried to restore them tho play store ,I have a feel they would be able to , someone like to test this out .

I used a gmail address to buy the app on my iphone last year and when I bought an android tablet a few months ago I tried to use the same log-in details but it didn't work. The Navionics FAQ https://navionics.secure.force.com/...-Device-All-Platforms/?l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1 is very clear about this and says
"If you have already purchased a current app and have made the In-App purchases and want to share this information between devices or if you have purchased the regions within the Boating app and also want to share this information between devices, please follow the below instructions. Before beginning, both devices must be of the same platform (Android and iOS are not interchangeable)."
I'm surprised people are jumping to defend Navionics on this.
