inspired by the lower thread on chart table.
I am shortly going from baltic to mediteranean -this involves a lot of
charts.-about 5 tubes containing 6or7 each and a pile of the smaller swedish and danish
leisure charts about 2 inches thick.
has any one got any clever ideas on stowing them.?or should I just get rid of them after use?

We bought some plastic ziplok storage envelopes that fit Admiralty charts. All our currently unwanted charts, Ireland and Scotland West coast for example, are in them under the bed in the apartment. Prior to that we had them on a shelf in the boat forecabin but it seemed pointless carrying them around.

My plan is to use the end of the chart table to form a cupboard with a hinged lit on the top. This will be about 10 inches across and the top will hinge on the inboard edge.

in their I am going to create a series of slots for various chart sizes.

It should hopefully work a bit like a concertina file and allow me to keep charts for different areas together.

I really hate using rolled charts, so hopefully this will allow me to keep them flat, safe, easily accessible

Likewise, I'm heading to the Baltic in 3/4 weeks time. If your Swedish/Danish ones are reasonably recent/up to date, I'd be interested in buying them off you (within the next week or so, I'll probably have sorted something else out after that). I'm also interested in Finnish charts.

Pity. Do you happen to know a good source of (preferably cheap/secondhand) charts for Sweden/Finland?

not really ,we have been using marine chart services (www.chartsales.co.uk)
for the over views and you should pick up the detailed packs of leisure charts for
local area easily in your first port of call. These are well worth having especially
around these coasts where UK based sailors are liable to get a big culture shock
by just seeing the amount of things its possible to bump into, still ,no tides so its
really interesting sailing..

I built a shelf with slats, under the wheelhouse deckhead, which allows folded admiralty charts to be stored there, keeps them flat, dry, handy and out of the way. Any charts that are not required for the immediate future, say one year or 1000 nm, are stored in the bottom of one of my drawers, under the bunks with clothes on top.
