Chart plotter scale

I recently posted that our garmin plotter.seized when attempting to change scale . Lotd of fiddling.about .indicated that the contacts on.the card was the problem it still.freezes after about 10 scale changes.so we don't want to.change scale at a tricky moment! Is there a way to.clean the contacts inside the unit?

I suspect it depends if the switches are 'clicky' microswitches or the spongy rubber contact patch. I regularly have to clean the spongy ones on the TV remote with alcohol. I've never had to try to clean a 'clicky' microswitch, they may need to be replaced. Either way you have to get inside the unit.

Thanks its the gold plated contacts on the card or in the plotter which seem to be the problem.

In the past - I have used solventless - plastic safe Contact cleaner applied to the card and then insert / remove card before cleaner evaporates away ..

But TBH - its your risk - I'm just passing on what I have done in past ..
