Raymarine plotter Model 320. UK prices about £550. USA prices $550.
Same model number. Same spec. That’s a significant saving.
Should I buy from USA?
As I have ST60 instruments the Raymarine will interface OK.
Or should I not bother about the interface, just get the best for the same money.
Anyone got anything bad or good to say about the 320.

you should (in theory) pay import duty and vat on the us purchase so the difference will be a bit smaller afterwards.

what input would the plotter take from your instruments anyway? not familiar with this model, but most seem to get all the info they want from the gps.

If you want to link your plotter to computer software to upload waypoints check that this is possible before you pay out cash. I have Maptech software which will link to the Raynav 300 and show the boat position on the computer chart but it will not allow transfer of waypoints.

There can be significant differences, as some have found out after the event. But to verify if this is right, call Dave Wellcome of Raymarine (software development engineer) who always knows these things,

02392 693611 extension 1614.

Can you post his response so we all know?

I have the 320 fitted above the companion way beside the st60 instruments with a yeoman plotter at the chart table. Idea was to keep kids and guests entertained by watching where we are at any point.

Did have an issue with getting Waypoints from the yeoman to the 320 as the manual for the yeoman was appalling, but eventually got it to work with the help of Darthaven electronics. All interfaced to SL72 radar and st6001 autopilot.

Despite small screen 320 is very good and has convinced me of the value of electronic chart plotter. However still use the yeoman to record positions on paper. Worst bit is trying to get the ships position to stay in the middle of the screen and the chart to move around it. It can be done but takes abit of fiddling. My 10 year old is most competent at driving the thing and has suddenly taken an interest in navigation as it seems more like a slow moving playstation!

I would recommend it but not as sole method of navigation as screen is a bit small.
