I thought I would share this as a Christmas present to you all.

I have been searching for a violet ink pen that would write on Imray and French SHOM charts.

You know, they have a sort of waterproof coating on them.

Until the Hydrographic Office started walking, or should I say, sailing away from us leisure users I used a 'proper' Faber-Castell 0.18 pen for Admiralty charts - but such pen doesn't work on the charts I am now forced to use.

Anyhow, the 'Pentel RSVP' range do a violet ink, fine nib ball point - others I tried said 'fine' but wrote like an a emulsioning brush !

You'd have to buy a pack of 12 - mine came from New Zealand via a firm called Fishpond.com and cost £14.97 and shipping was free.

Happy Christmas and Correcting !

Cheers - my Imray-correcting pen has just about run out, so this is a timely bit of advice. I did have to audition about a dozen different purple pens on an old chart to find one which was both fine and permanent, so I know what you mean.

:)

Afraid the goose-bum end of that is far too wide for proper corrections, though. In fact, since posting above I've found that the pen this thread is about is 0.7mm, and even that seems a little wide. Can't check on my current pen as it's on the boat, but I think it's less than that.

Foeu......... you're guilty of another massive photo
seasons' greetings :)

V sorry. Instead of using an actual pic it's just a link to a pic on the web. Will try to sort it, had no idea of size.
Edit...Should be ok now, done via photobucket. Looks just the same to me.

Thank you all for your replies, but just a few observations:

1 - The suggestion of the Quill was just featherbrained.

2 - And the challenge of using them on a screen is so easily solved - use Post-It Notes !

Thanks

After having tried a few pens, I eventually found one that suits me well, it is a Muji (Japanese fashion brand) pen, thickness 0.38mm, there are several colours I took the red/orange, definitely writes over SHOM and Imray. Price about £1 (and you can buy only one).

This is it (sorry for some reason even if I choose UK it shows everything in French)

Uk Shops here

It is not perfectly perfectly 100% waterproof, rubbing a wet finger over the dried ink will spread it lightly but the writing remains readable. I prefer this to the 0.5mm ones I used beforehand, which proved to be too thick in several places.

regards

That's fine now! Fully appreciate you see no change but thought you might like to know :)

Comes up in English for me :)

0.38mm seems way too thick to me, though. I've just bought a couple of 0.2mm pens, though I haven't yet tested their ability to write on Imray charts. They do 0.1mm too, but only in black unfortunately.

Give us back those Stabilo-Rotring-... 0.1mm china ink pens we used for waterlines spaced 0.2mm apart :)

It seems very difficult to source any very thin point pens, technical pens not those that after having drawn a half a meter line widen to 0.5mm, let alone colours..

I've ordered a set of those Sakura pens from the USA. When they arrive, I'll let you know how they mark up on Admiralty chart paper.

Already got one, it's one of those referred to in #14 (from Cultpens). Draws a nice line, though surprisingly a little wider than my "0.3" pentel, and will probably be fine on Admiralty charts. But sadly, on Imray, it still smudges even after blotting and being given plenty of drying time.

Never expected to turn into some kind of pen geek :)
