Charge controller fuse

I have installed a 60 watt solar panel which goes through a dual battery charge controller. I understand that I need a fuse but which side and what size?

Fit fuses as close to the batteries as possible. They are there to protect the wiring from the high current that the batteries could deliver in the event of a fault or short.

Large enough value to take the full current output from the solar panel but smaller than the max safe current rating of the wiring.

5 amp ought to do but you could fit larger assuming the wiring is heavy enough. (It should be heavy enough to avoid excessive volts drop anyway)
