Channel Islands Pilots

Which guide would you recommend for a Channel Islands/North Brittany Pilot? Kelvin Hughes has
- North Brittany/Channel Islands (Reeds)
- North Brittany & Channel Islands Cruising Companion 7th Ed 2001 (RCC Foundation)
- North Brittany & Channel Islands Cruising Companion 2nd Ed 2001 (Peter Cumberlidge)
I am particularly interested in good pictures/drawings of the transits. Having a map with transit lines alone is not much help as we discovered in the Scillies!

We have both Peter Cumberlidges and the RCC Foundation. The cumberlidge has sat on the book shelf at home all year whilst the RCC Foundation version is in the boat. I know that one or two tricky inshore passages are well set out in the RCC foundation book and I believe the maps are better than Peter Cumberlidges.

Do not ingnore the Pilots in the almanac which are also useful. If you are doing a lot of sailing round Guernsey there is a useful little local book called Munsons, which is about £3 and is worth every penny.

Thanks for the advice Chris - online bookstores are very convenient, but not so good for browsing!

What is Munsons? is it similar to the Solent Hazards booklet?

Robsons is no good as so much has changed since then the 'sketches' are out of date.

Get the updated Admiralty one.

Munsons is a local pilot folder and very easy to follow but only covers Guernsey Herm and Sark.

I am boating again ;-)

In addition to the Shell pilot and Reeds Channel Almanac I actually found the 'destination' guides published in YM over the past year to be really useful. Equally so in N Brittany. Certainly better than Shell.

I have an RCC one that may differ from those mentioned - it is written by Nick Heath and just covers the Channel Islands. It is very good for transits and the like.
