Channel Almanac

If you have a Navman 5500 plotter you get tide and harbour data with your C map NT+ cartridge - and it includes data on all the secondary ports (so get rid of your calculators!!!)

Calculators???
No offence meant, but why should you need a calculator to work out a secondary port calculation? It is a very quick and simple thing to do if you know the right way of going about it.
Personally Ive never understood the need for computerised tidal data.

But then again I still use paper charts, hey aren't I the luddite /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

if you didn't understand that the "calculator" bit was tongue-in-cheeck mode, then I understand your belief that it was "foot-in-mouth mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay! Girls lets not fight!

lets get back on to subject......
I can not afford a Navman *&65$3432&^$£ whatever.... as I have just bought a 30' Moody and it aint gonner be cheap to fix her up.

I already have Maptech on my laptop (well I did until it went Kaboom!!!) so all I was after was the pilotage notes etc around harbours and the like as per Mac/Reed.
& I am sure somewhere I have seen this as a piece of software!

The maptech is great for passage planning but after all its only a copy of Admiralty charts.

So girls stop playing with your nickers & get me some answers!!!!!

poter.

On lack of charity.

Can't think why the armangac publishers would put this info out soft if it would hit the sales of the hard copy version. And if they did, they would probably want to charge an arm and a leg for it. So, why not stump up your £30 or so for the real thing (which some MCA regulation probably says you have to have aboard anyway).

Re: On lack of charity.

There's a small version for about 12 squids which I use because I've got a 26 ft boat and don't need port plans for Killybegs, Fowey and Gibraltar (down here in Essex). The trouble with buying the £30 one is there's only 4 sailing months till the end of the year. You could try striking a deal with a chandler who's lumbered with a few.

Ken.... I already have a mac reed channel almanac, I was just wondering if its been done electronically....everything else has.

Re: On lack of charity.

There's no electronic equivalent.

Apparently Macmillan did consider doing an electronic version that would tie into other navigation equipment, but they needed a partner to help provide the big bucks necessary to develop it and couldn't find anyone interested.

Macmillan have now sold it, probably in consequence of the above, though, for the moment at least, it retains the Mac Reeds name.
