With all the hoohaa of the insurance thread - I decided to take my Pants downs and change to Navigators and General.

Premium was a little down on last years renewal, but I am happier with the cover - I never liked the New for Old deduction clause, where anything other than the hull would attract a 30% deduction on parts.

Lets hope I never have to make a claim anyway.

Have gone with Navigators and General too. Interestingly they said they would have brought the boat back to the UK for repairs. The risks of a bodged repair abroad are too great. They recently brought a 40 footer back for repairs.

Chris.

Re: Did N&G

Ken - been away sailing for a week.

No, they didn't want an out of the water survey - they had a copy of the 1997 dutch survey plus my detailed annual maintenance notes which I keep every year - mainly to help me keep a list of all jobs and standard servicing and check that are needed. These are very good tro send to an insurere every year as it should convince them that you keep a well maintained boat - so they may be likely to pay out with fewer questions.

My daughter also used to work for them, so I may have had a slight element of extra allowance. The best guy to speak to there is Owen Bolding who will take the trouble to understand the nature of the risk he is taking on.

Re: Did

Hmmm.... N&G

I went throught their entire on line quote site, modifed my internet settings (the webmasters should be ashamed of themselves!!) filled out the extensive form, only to be told that as I dont live in the UK they wont insure me.
Could have told me that in the first place and saved me all that agro.
