CDYC access times?

What is the average access time either side of HW.

No such thing as average......all depends on the size of boat.

I have only visited a couple of times but would prefer not to be up there more than an hour or so each side of HW. The pill is surprisingly deep and has water until about half tide but by then the approach over the sands will be very shallow for us non locals,also the tide will be belting out by then.

As Csail says Snoopy is our resident expert Im sure he will be along soon.

when I was a member, the usual route was to leave Charston rock to starboard coming up river (mind black rock) and then run parallel to the bank. there used to be leading marks and you entered leaving all the moorings to port since the pill is deeper on that side of the moorings.

as to timing, I wouldnt want to leave avonmouth until 2 hours before HW or even an hour - it makes life easier. so you are then entering the pill at or near HW. there used to be sufficient water for locals to enter and leave 2 to 3 hours either side depending on which part of the pill they were going from.

The first leading mark has either been washed away or stolen, it was a 50mph speed sign, but nobody kept to it.
the information already given is fine. For more detailed info look in the"Blue Book" or the CDYC web site and look up Pilotage, I`m told its very good! phone numbers are also on the website.32ft Fin keel Sadler called in and moored up on the Pontoon without any problem, over 6ft mud on the Club house side. If Fin remember to take a masthead line and tie off 1/2 way up the pontoon, large cleats are fitted for this.

And lest the expression "club house side" causes any confusion, what you are looking for is an old concrete single car garage!

Leaving charston Rock to Stbd looked a bit frightening to me so i used the cowards route going up another half a mile then over the sandbank. How do you judge how far to leave Charston Rock to stbd without getting too close to the rocks on the port side?Or is it just down to local knowledge?

"Merlot" 32ft Sadler with 5ft 6" Keel used the stbd passage last friday , hw.13.51 avonmouth, 10.9mtr tide.

Local knowledge. Did it all the time when I was based there - was more concerned about judging where to clear the sand banks on the alternative route. But I wouldnt dare to try to explain the route to someone from 10 year old memory and over the internet. Ask Snoopy.
