Cavitation

Hmmm. I have heard cavitation can get the hub, though it's not obvious (to me) why.

Is it definitely the case that there's no pitting at all on the aft-facing surface of the prop? If there's none there, it could be cavitation, but if there's any there it must be electrolysis

That sounds like corrosin, cavitation damage shows mainly on the blades, where the pressure is lowest and the water "boils" then condenses.
