Caulking disaster. Advice needed

Re: Marine-Glue JEFFERYS Black No.2

We used to use Jefferies Marine Glue back in the 50's and early 60's. It is basically pitch which is heated up until liquid and then poured into the seam. It dried hard as it cooled but certainly no good in Med temperatures and not suitable for modern applications. As an apprentice, I was the 'pitch runner' and still have the scars to prove it !

Re: Marine-Glue JEFFERYS Black No.2

In 1984, I bought the very last tin of Jeffries Number One ever sold by Jeffries - Mrs Green at Jeffries (in Stratford atte Bowe iirc) told me that they had stopped making it but that Cunard had "scored" a new teak deck for the QE2 off the MOD after the Falklands charter so since they were not paying for it they had specified "Number One".

It would have saved the taxpayer a fortune if the squaddies had taken their boots off!

Anyway I seem to have a deck to do now so I am paying close attention to this thread.
