More fool them, I couldnt bear to even leave a marina in one.

In 20 years of owning a boat identical to yours I got called foolish many times for the type of boat I sailed (unsafe to leave a marina apparently) and where I sailed it, to my face and by people on here. This trip in particular caused plenty of sucking of teeth and shaking of heads by the disapprovers who couldn't fathom my supposed level of recklessness. However, it didn't promote disapproval by me of other people's boats that were different - rather it instilled tolerance that, like me, people own the boats they like for their own reasons - be it a stinkpot, a condomaran, an AWB marina queen, a smelly old MAB, or even an A22. I am interested and could enjoy time on them all, from a Topper upwards (especially in my current boatless state :().

Far too big for me, but I've no ambitions to cross oceans. I don't think my lottery win boat would be more than about 36'
The average size of sails boats in the UK is quite small compared to what we see in the Caribbean. The difference being that most boats in the Caribbean have sailed long distances to get there. A larger boat is nicer on a long passage and more comfortable to live on. The average size in the Caribbean must be way over 50ft these days. At 44ft long our boat feels distinctly small

We cruised twice over in the Windies from Gib in our Moody 33. :D

Whilst off Venezuela.....before it got too dodgy, we did speculate that pirates might come over and give us stuff.

Disagree, I'm afraid. Hundreds cross the Atlantic every year. Many go on through Panama to the Pacific.
Thousands of people sail oceans on boats other people don't like. But they are out there doing it.....

Last year I delivereda Lagoon 46 from San Carles near Barcelona to Lanzarote. Very pleasant, comfortable trip.

The boat is now in the Windies and heading for Panama soon. Doers and talkers, I suppose.
Not so much a question of like. We all seem to consider them unsuitable for one reason or another

We all have our preferences - and prejudices (Lagoons bulkheads collapse, Bavaria keels fall off, so I wouldn't go to Cowes from the Hamble in them, etc) In an effort to bring harmony, here's a pic of a boat that few of us are ever likely to own, but I think we can all agree that she's a thing of beauty - a marine work of art

I'm too old and unfit to want to own one so even if I could afford her, I'd get something else, but wow!

I don't think those two are really comparable. As far as I know is was only a very few Bavaria Matches that had probably grounded that had problems, and Bavaria did a proper fix on them. On the Lagoon 450's 20% of the over 1100 made have now reported bulkhead problems, and that's the ones that have been inspected, a non-trivial task in itself. Also Lagoon are trying to squirm out of their responsibility with a ridiculous list of exceptions.

No-one is saying that Lagoon 450's are not suitable for the Caribbean charter market. It's crossing oceans where they are likely to fail.
