Casting Lead?

I'm thinking of making up a lead line as a back up to the echosounder.

I was thinking of pouring some lead into a piece of pipe or a wooden mould... How should I melt the lead? I have a powerful camping burner and an old saucepan will that be enough do you think?

Be very careful of what you poor it into,any moisture & you will get an explosion.It happened at school & the Metal work teacher was mortified because it almost lead to very serious injuries.

Is it worth painting the lead? Any particular paint I should use?

I don't like handling lead, so when I made my dive weights I encapsulated them in resin.
