Cascover Theathing

Can anyone tell me anything about Cascover Sheathing? What is the fabric, what is the glue, is it waterproof, what do you do if it becomes damaged/unattached, etc?? Thanks.

I've recently bought a sheathed boat - If its loose in local patches it can be stuck back with West Epoxy (according to my surveyor). Not sure of the actual nature of the material but it seems extremely tough. Its going out of fashion as its more common now to fibreglass sheath. If you lost a whole section just replace with fibreglass but if yours is as tough as mine it will not come off!

I understand that the fabric is nylon, but as it did not get sold here in Oz I have no idea of the adhesive.

The sheathing material is nylon and it is fixed with Cascamite adhesive.

Or so I have been told.

I think Cascamite is a water based waterproof adhesive that I once used many years ago to build model boats, sort of white powder stuff that you mix with water.

Nylon cloth, stuck on with resorcinol (originally Cascophen) glue. Still available/repairable, I am told by Robertsons here in Woodbridge. Presumably any other first class wooden boat yard will also do it. Done as a precaution against teredo worm. Better practice for wooden boats than glass cloth and epoxy, since more flexible and epoxy is no longer seen as the wonderglue these days.

Sorry to enter this one a bit late. Cascover is a nylon sheeting, the prefered adhesive being Cascophen. I have worked with this product on several occassions without to much problem.It was a good product if correctly applied, and is still very serviceable after 40 years. Epoxy is not a good adhesive as it has a weak bond with the nylon sheathing. Cascophen is readly available and should be used. Epoxy and GF matting or tape can be used on top of the sheathing to form a repair, providing the sheathing is well roughened and cleaned prior to application. This works well on hard chined boats where the covering has been damaged due to careless lifting etc.

I would like to know if Cascover is still available and where I can order it.
I am rebuilding a Arthur Robb Ketch and I like to replace what I had to remove for the repairs
