A huge storm has taken out the protecting wall and many boats have broken their mooring lines and the whole marina has been evacuated. It is feared that some boats will be sunk by the morning. SuperYachts moored stern to have had their cleats ripped out and windows smashed. Many of the crews were rescued by the harbour launch from the bows of their boats.

Good grief .... now you see it, now you don't. :ambivalence:

Scary stuff, the weather's a bit bonkers in the Western Med at the moment. Here in Cagliari, it's gone up and down really quickly all day. Gusting 50 for 3 hours, then down to 5 knots for a couple of hours, then back up to gusting 50 again, then back down again.

Some freinds in La Spezia sent us a picture looking out of their porthole at the bottom of their neighbours boat as it leant over in the winds.

Hopefully it'll die down tonight as forecast and no-one will be hurt.

This video shows the super yachts tied up against the wall that exploded. Most are now sunk, one has washed up on the shore completely destroyed.

Horrendous weather conditions and as Sybarite said there are a lot of damaged boats in Corsica.

Our boat is berthed in the embouchure of the river Aude that flooded last week with tragic loss of life. The boat should be OK as the marina is not in line with anything vulnerable, but I'll be going down there on Thursday when the weather's calmed down a bit.

For anyone having access to FB, really impressive video of the collapsing wall

Looks like insurance premiums will go up a lot next year. This drone footage shows the extent of the damage I would estimate about £200m of boat damages possibly more.

Good God! The video of the harbour wall vanishing is truly incredible. The footage of the wrecked boats is heart-rending even though most of them are stinkpots. Simply unbelieveable!

Aparently around 380 boats have sunk in the harbour including Silvio Berlusconi 37m yacht. Italian reports are estimating the losses at €500 million Euros which is going to affect insurance premiums without a doubt. Rapallo was the worst hit but San Remo also suffered a number of sinking and 4 deaths.

Given that the marina only has 400 berths, this number seems a bit of an exaggeration even allowing for vessels sunk in the harbour rather than the marina
