A good friend has a 28' Colvic Motor Sailer and looking for a year round Marina berth in cardiff can anyone recomend a good value for money marina, Electricity will be important.

Also wondered about the yatch club pros and cons

Many thanks Paul

yacht club pros and cons COMMITTE if you got aproblem in a marina you go to the manager and he sorts it out. you got a PROBLEM IN A CLUB you are at the bottom end of the pecking order and treated as s**t stirrer. if you can afford go to marina every time. to much politics in a club.

Hi,out of the two clubs in "the bay" only CBYC has power, failing that you have Penarth Marina or one of the new ones spinging up the river Ely.not sure of prices, not cheap i bet.
good luck

I suppose that depends on your social skills.

I suppose that depends on your social skills.

seen it to many times old club member says hes only been here 5 mins and he wants things his way.you go to marina after 30 mins you got same rights that somebody been there 30 years.thats nothing to do with social skills. thats fact !!

It's everything to do with social skills. Clubs are social organisations - you work together to make things happen. Go into one with the wrong attitude and you will get problems. Join in, help others, do your bit for the common good and they are great.

If all you want is the marine equivalent of NCP then go for a marina.

i must have worn the wrong spectacles,or joined the wrong club.!! done all that you said and more. lo and behold theres a power struggle and the club becomes a warzone !! no no not for me,the words for someone who has worked tirelessly for over 40 years hes had is time !!a very bitter pill to swallow

Not had the same experience.

Sorry you feel like that Mr B .

Since being a member of CBYC (about 6 years now I think) I certainly cant complain about the way I have been treated. The staff there have been very helpful to me on several occasions.I have made a few new friends among the members there as well.

With a 1000 members at least a few of them are bound to be not your favourite flavour but on average not a bad place to be IMHO.

Hello Paul I have my boat on a swinging mooring at CBYC and think its a good place to keep a boat.

CBYC also has pontoon moorings with power and water and without (bit cheaper) It also has lifting out facilities at reasonable cost provided you only stay out for a month, after that being ashore becomes more expensive. The one problem is the small car park which means you sometimes have to park out on the road at busy weekends. It has paid staff that deal with mooring maintenance lifting boats in and out etc etc . I think the fees and things are on CBYC website.

Cardiff YC also has pontoons , not sure if power is rigged on them I am sure someone on here will answer that for you before long.

Some people prefer to be in a marina but pay a lot more for very little advantage in my opinion.

No worries mate we all need a rant now and then. :-) I try to keep out of politics as much as possible and just do my own thing. it allways exists to some extent in any club .

Undoubtedly true. But it's always interesting to watch and is a fascinating insight to human nature. Exists just as much in a marina but the game there is played in a different and not always obvious way.

personally I always reckon that the advantages of club membership way outweigh the disadvantage that every so often a bout of politicking breaks out. But I suppose it depends on whether you can let this sort of thing wash over you.

The "power struggle" at CBYC, if you can call it that, was really entertaining.

Cardiff Marina

If your preference would be for the marina at Cardiff, then I can at least say that the 2 years or so I've been using the facility have been absolutley fine.

Having said that - I'm heading for CBYC in the Spring ;-)
