Cardiff Bay height dropped ?

Out today on the boat in the bay, normal height when we left the ely but when we got back a few hours later it has dropped at least a meter, any ideas why ?

the water is lowered to allow for the flood from the rivers

To expand on Zebadee's answer. I understand that, if they are expecting large volumes of flow into the bay when the next tide is higher the the bay, the harbour authority lower the level.

It was back up to just below what I can normal levels on sat morning, it twigged then with the heavy rainfall on friday (trying to sort out my reefing lines in the bay when the heavens opened) and with springs.
