Our handbook says in bold capitals, ‘DO NOT MODIFY THE MAST’.

Whilst the manufactuers will give dire warming about modification to a carbon mast, that's because they don't want DIY mods done by inexperienced people.
Carbon fibre is inherently easy to repair and modify IF YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
If you want to add a sheave box or similar to a mast, to take the loads from a free standing self tacking jib. Talk to the manufactuers of the mast and get advice on; who to trust to design the modification, and who to goto to get the work done.
In an idea world that may be to original manufactuers, but I recognise that might not be practical. There are carbon fibre specialist dotted around the world who repair for insurance companies.
