Car insurance.. 6mths in a Spanish Marina

Theft is high in Tenerife and vandalism etc hence bars on the windows etc.
Where I live, central Los Cristianos, people leave cars for months. The only problem is in some places they have to be moved for carnival or tree pruning.
There are a lot of camper vans left for months that people use as holiday accommodation....the bars on the windows are to prevent squatters, very little vandalism, but of course it does exist.

Might be different for real estate -back in the mid 80s no one had bars in Sueno Azule but thefts increased, the brick walls went up and the window gates/bars became the norm -I’m not saying every villa had them but casual break in for cash/cameras etc drove a culture of increased security. Area was mainly owned by French/germans and Brits so little indigenous residents when developed and mainly holiday homes so I guess seen by some as soft target given absentee owners. It might be that los Cristianos having more local residents has less of a problem .

Lot of police presence on Tenerife now compared to years ago.they pretty much know what's occurring. Obviously threr are still chancers, but on the whole a pretty safe place to live.

The main problem on Tenerife and other places of course are the roaming gangs of pickpockets, these people are from other european countries, they are good at altering ATM machines, i had better not name them, there are videos circulating of how they operate, the police have caught quite a few, but as long as silly tourists carry their wallets and phones in a backpack it will continue to happen.

5 years plus living here, not my experience....

As always mountains and molehill's, I've been coming here since 90's 35+years, back then scammers, con artist and timeshare touts behind every tree, but now as is said post #23 of course there are chancers, but police/surveillance now catches them, as your link shows.
Probably more in Heathrow than on Tenerife

In terms of car rental we used Poul Auto for many years - a Danish firm and simple pick up at airport under the shades using the locked coded key ad and none of the issues you find in Majorca and other Med islands it’s much simpler than having a merc taxi etc or using some of the other large operators
