I've just been quoted £2000 + VAT for a sprayhood and simple cockpit tent on a 26 ft boat. This seems an enormous sum to me... or am I just wrong? What have other people paid for similar items? Is there somewhere one would recommend on the East Coast?

we were lucky to have a very old sprayhood (torn andwindows missing)from which we made a new one with canvas and heavy duty window film bought from our local camping store.so far its lasted three years, a seven in the channel and two family holidays. Cost aprox £130.00 including new fixings.although the frame is original. But you could still have one made for a fraction of the quoted price.

Sounds very expensive, try another supplier; the problem with a cockpit tent is that they are usually custom built and have to be carefully measured and the stainless hoops can be expensive - where are you based?
Try Martex for sprayhoods - don't know their no but they advertise in the back of the sailing mags - they do 'kits' which are oversize and you cut to fit your boat. They seem to do a nice job, my friend has just had a replacement hood at a reasonable price from them.
Pointnorth also do kits I believe but have no experience of sprayhoods from them only material supply.

As you have already been told, this sounds like a lot. My new hood and cockpit tent, with new stainless steel frames, fitted and a superb job, cost something like 1300 pounds for a Sadler 34. Made in Holland, so perhaps not much use to you except as a price comparison.
