I've sailed to the canary islands 3 times, each time before transatlantic passage. Most recently late 99. At that stage, there seemed to be a severe shortage of marina berths and there are, of course, virtually no natural harbours. I think, therefore you would have to get there well before the transatlantic boats start arriving in September/October/November, and preferably try to pre-book something well in advance. I do not think there are any harbours where the protection is really first rate and most marinas have some degree of surge. If leaving a boat unattended, I would therefore tend to favour laying up ashore. Most pleasant harbours are Gomera and Mogan, but neither has a great deal of space. Sorry to be rather negative.
