Bit of a ride in the acceleration zone but the miles whizzed by.
Having been here before we just went straight on harbour wall. No answer vhf or phone. Security guy arrived all happy, we stay put overnight.
Sleepy town. Got bars though.....

Is it still alongside only in La Restinga? We got a bit trashed in three days alongside the wall, burst our giant fender.

I see there is a 'proper' marina now in Puerto de la Estaca - any good?

Bumpy ride. Was very windy leaving. 3 refs just hacked it. However as uou get through the zone, the wind backs and eventually dies in the lee of Gomera. So...motor.
Went and looked st the Anchorage off Los Chtistianos before dawn but looked very telly. Teo yachts in there going quite wild.
So easy decision, motor slowly round to San Miguel. On reception just before 8. Office opens at ten!
Couple of hours to fix a few things!! Including another autopilot fault.
Off again tomorrow, gran canaria.

Ashore from San Miguel marina is mostly holiday complexes and hotels and mostly shut.

Marina bar and restaurant is very good tho.

Good 8 o'clock start, bit grey but that will pass. Winds in zone should be lighter at around 20 to 25.

Puerto Mogan, here we come. :)

We loved the wee bar at San Miguel, no need to go any further . . .

Give my regards to Mogan, fabulous marina.

Puerto Mogan brings back memories, we were sat on a concrete bench with wooden lats, we had been watching the Mullet in the river, a bus started reversing towards us, he got near and i thought, he will stop now, but he carried on, we both jumped up and he hit the bench! he jumped out of the cab and was very apologetic, he put his fingers up the exhaust pipe and rubbed it over all the paint he had knocked off, grinned and drove off, had to chuckle at the time.

Mogan is certainly on the road to recovery. Totally reliant on tourists, they are now here in numbers.
Lots of beachgoers, most bars and restaurants open.
We are in a real sun trap in the corner of the marina so will get going around mid day.
Wind has decided that we will need to motor along to the east end of the island then the last zone to cross looks like another three reef ride.
Then of course no wind up the east side of fuertaventura. Still planning on last run ashore in Rosario at my favourite restaurant. The Bounty. Should get there around middle of day tomorrow.
Last leg, short 25 miles on monday, homeward bounders.

Now in the pleasant little marina in the capital Rosario, fuertaventura. It's a commercial port too but quiet at the moment.

Bumpy ride across through the night. One hour on two off in rough seas. Autopilot motor siezed up. Disconnected arm, hand steer. Been getting worse all trip.
The hydrovane is off set and close reach, port, not enough rudder in water to steer even after we lowered the assembly to full extent.
Boats.
Still boat and salty kit washed. Crew in preparation for stepping ashore. Sun out!

Under way and making way on our final25 mile hop. No wind this morning....as forecast.

Fab 12 days apart from hand steering in the very windy bits. My character is already built.
Actually having had masses of practice it wasn't so bad. The longest one is gran canaria to the lee of fuertaventura. That was a bumpy ride. As with all the zones we went for comfort rather than bashing across close hauled. Adds a few miles but any fool can be uncomfortable....as they say in the navy.

So around 600 miles, 3 overnight sails, 6 other islands and a number of bars and restaurants!

If anyone wants any more details of ports, sailing conditions in the area, Hanse 445 yachts, fire away.

Still got the 8th island to re visit as Graciosa is now called. So looking forward to s much gentler sail up there sometime soon.

How's the hydrovane behaving?

(great thread ---- wishing I were there, doing that)
Cheers!

Hydrovane behaved badly. It's offset to port for the transom swimming platform. Anything closer than a beam reach lifts the rudder clear of the water, sadly. We lowered it as far as possible but no joy. Gonna email the incredibly helpful manufacturers. They gave us heaps of good advice when we fitted one to our yacht and it works perfectly. Dogs doodahs on a couple of transatlantics.

The autopilot motor wrapped it's hand in completely during the last night crossing. Disconnected from quadrant so we could steer! Took it off when we got in today. One of our crew is a fab maintainer of all things boat and house. He's taken it back home to his workshop to see if it can be refurbished.

Perhaps another lap should be clockwise!
