Canarian Cruise. Pre sea checks!

The last three ports we’ve stopped at had diesel for fishermen but wouldn’t sell it to the public, perhaps same there. We’re in the UK and Ireland so baffled by their reasoning as we get red anyway (not Ireland so makes more sense there)
Perhaps they can’t be bothered with the form-filling?

Apparently they don’t have a choice. Makes it a bit of a pain rounding Lands End if you’re coming from too far up as St Marys is the only viable stop for fuel other than Penzance (which is a pain with tides)

Left Marina Tazacorte 0700 this morning. Very nice place I much prefer it to Santa Cruz. Everything is clean, excellent staff and 2 bars. Tapas style food mostly, great staff too.

Had more time there this stop to look around. Took a bus up through the small town of Tazacortre to Los Llanos. Like most Spanish towns there is a main square and in this one you can sit with coffee under a canopy of very old fig trees.
Yesterday we hired a car and drove up to the top of the volcano.

Good viz on way up but as the cloud came in we found ourselves above it.

Went to the really good visitor centre by the observatories. Displays good plus a short movie about their work every half hour or so. No canteen, take your own.

Thick cloud for the drive down through pine forest and very bendy road. Drove through Santa Cruz not much enthusiasm from my shipmates. The back to boat. Around 6 hours we'll worth it.

Next stop El Hierro probably not long after sunset. I know a bar.......

When we stayed at Tazacorte we drove up to the pico de la nieves, the car nearly got blown off the top of the road it was that windy, in Tazacorte there is a path that goes right up to the top of the mountain, all the German tourists had ski type poles and all the gear and walked up it, i did it in shorts, T shirt and crocks, the Germans took photos of me and thought, mad Englishman:)

Making good progress and under motor but there’s a load of cloud and miserable drizzle coming your way maybe?
Yeah forecast is for some overcast and mebbe light rain tomorrow for a short period. Visibility fair, can see El Hierro reasonably clearly, La Gomera less so and very little of Tenerife.

If there was any less wind it would suck....

No room in La Restinga! Port is full of repiling work for new pontoons and a couple of Salvamento......lifeguard....vessels. we had sent an email but not answered, chatting to policeman I think he replied but to a different yacht. Such is life. Will save El Hierro for another day. The guy did say too that fuel is just for fishing boats and workboats.....

So an overnight hop to Tenerife, hopefully San Miguel marina. Had a fab home cooked chicken curry to cheer us up. Fish tomorrow!

Anchored near Las Galletas. Waiting for marina to respond. Time for sausage and bacon sandwich and a swim after.

Back to commercial canaries. Seems that since the last couple of times I've been in San Miguel it's had a take over by a golf resort company and they have.....check in times.

You’ve found the golf then if not the marina. Guess it’s better than being alongside a fuel pontoon though

Yes cable car, botanic gardens at top, the basket ride down plus jeep safari to the western hills. Plenty of fine eateries but perhaps quite traditional in style. While know Tenerife very well Madeira is a much more traditional place . Decided to miss out on afternoon tea at Reid’s and the restaurant there as €80 euro a bottle of wine didn’t attract.

It used to be difficult to get a berth in Funchal. Last time there we saw a big refurb happening so mebbe more room now?

Don't miss the Christiano Ronaldo museum! :D

And cake.....
