Can you use car wax on a boat if not why not ??????????

I think i've tried a bucket of them. Most when applied well seem to do a fairly decent job but Autoglym Super Resin Polish does seem to work very well. A couple of years ago, on a very shineless area of the boat (before compounding), I polished a patch without too much enthusiasm with the Autoglym stuff and a year later that patch was still nice and shiny with virtually zero care, and being on the weather-beaten side. I use it a lot now..

Yep a 19yr old thread ... but still relevant.

Auto Wax .... most are short term and don't last the marine environment ... but the ones that create a 'shell' coating can actually be good - but devils job if you ever need to have GRP repairs.

T-Cut and any of the Auto Colour Restorer products are fine to use - BUT not as a final cleaner before waxing ... if used as a first or patch cleaner before an overall good clean with a general cleaner to remove any residues - then fine. The residues if not removed can yellow the gelcoat surface.

Not a job I get involved in but all I will say is that you get what you pay for . I watch companies use these very modern tools I'm talking about different polishers and small sander like equipment the sort of thing these car detail companies use , on black and grey hulls this really does work and will last more than a season before it goes all chalky again . One of my clients with a grey hiull princess has used a pro company in the spring , boat still looks as good from the various stage cuts to the final wax protection, mist cheap polishes are just full of silicone to give a short term shine .

Met and the likes have fillers to fill scratches. Looks brilliant on application, long term… no so sure. Bit like air freshener, a smell to cover a smell! I’d rather polish the scratch out properly. Everyone to there own though
