I think I just did so. I bought a Taylors 065 heater off ebay, and as soon as I opened the box that it came in... phwoa! My mums living room is a bit pongy now.

Anyway, the title of this tread was perhaps a bit misleading. I wondered if anybody had a digital copy of the instructions for this heater. There is, for example, a round bit of what looks like rockwool under the lid, but this is a bit knackered and broken, so I'm wondering how important it is, and indeed, what it is so I can replace it if required.

Errgh, I've never smelled paraffin before (a sign on my age no doubt), but it stinks. I hope the boat doesn't end up smelling like this.

I've just had a paraffin-soaked weekend, spending the first night on my new boat where both the cooking and heating are parrafin. I don't think the smell is any worse than diesel or petrol. The vapour smells terrible if you cock up lighting the stove.
A friend of mine has switched to using domestic heating oil in his stove, and he says if anything it is superior. Just hard to buy in smaller quantities. His burners are the same as a Taylors so it should work in most stoves. Once I've run down the current tank I'll try it, although I'm a bit more wary about doing this with the Wallas heater. Most sources seem to say that parrafin is the same thing as kerosene which is the same thing as heating oil.

I understand that lamp oil is deodorised parafin, but it is a lot dearer. OK for occasional lighting use, but may be pricey for cooking/ heating.

Again, the usual caveat that I am no expert - try a pm to Refueller, it is his specialist subject.

You don't say what model or whether round or squared off casing.
Here's a link that I googled to detailing how-to-start-it.http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197764
Most spares available if you go Google BlakesTaylorLavac, they also answer the phone for advice. Flue length is impt, 1.1m min for yours.
The wooly insulator is important too to keep the top surface temp reasonable, I suppose, and provide a seal mebbe.
In haste, hope that helps
