Can we have a show of prices around for Red Diesel ??

It may be that some ... repeat some may not mind paying ...

But it would appear from the rate of answers coming in that some may NOT agree with you about me posting on THIS forum ....

You have your view and welcome to it - I and others have theirs ... I tend to believe that due to the "some" that have gone against the grain and accepted price increase and looss of Red concession may have driven some posters away from the diesel forum ...

Yes I honest believe that the few who agreed with your acceptance of full price diesel on boats were NOT a good enough number to cry support ... as every thread I have read about this subject on this and other forums ... the majority are not in favour of losing the red concession ....

Anyway - that is not the point ............ I wanted to get this topic MORE out in open and aired .... not stuck away in some dingy lower forum. So there like it or lump it !!!

Re: It may be that some ... repeat some may not mind paying ...

Anyone know what the process is for booking a tanker? It does seem to be usefully cheaper but how big is a tanker? I've wondered about trying to arrange this for a club. Any advice or comment welcome.

I proposed this ages ago ...

You can get a road tanker trailer quite cheap when no longer suitable for road .... or even a farmers tank ...

A syndicate set-up correctly should be able to buy in a stock while concession is still available ......... should keep the syndicate going for a while !!!

Tanks range from 1000 ltrs up to 40,000 ltrs ....

Re: I proposed this ages ago ...

Of course what could scupper these carefully made plans is when the government in its wisdom , fearing they could become unpopular if they proceded further and having wasted a load of our time and cash, decides to stop half way through the procedure as they have just done with the council tax revaluations.

Govt stop ??

As I understand it - its not TB's choice .... its EU led ....

But of course I'm probably wrong !!

Re: Govt stop ??

Indeed - but thats just the convenient excuse. The proposed scheme for road usage charging/pricing involved removing the duty on fuel - so they can do it if they want.

Mmmmm. Which majority are you talking about? It won't surprise me if the majority of red diesel users are against an increase, but the majority that matters is Joe Public and I don't think you can claim that they agree with you. I'm not even convinced that you would have a majority amongst the total boating community.

The more I have seen of the anti-increase arguments the more convinced I have become that there is no justification whatsoever in boaters getting a reduced rate.

Re: It may be that some ... repeat some may not mind paying ...

I suspect that the majority would see it as subsidising a rich mans sport, if they knew about it. Can anybody think of a suitable SUN headline? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Lets put this straight .... paying more or not ...

You now "quote" joe public ... which was not in the posts previously seen on the forums some time ago about losing the concession and paying more for diesel. Joe Public has no interest in these forums and therefore cannot be used in any form or manner.

The original threads some time ago were posted to by boaters ....as would be expected on forums like these ... and I do not recollect a majority in favour of losing the red concession. I will admit that I was surprised by the posts and the seemingly large number who were prepared to pay and did not argue against it.

I took up the gauntlet on your post - as it basically tried to say that majority were in favour of losing the concession - which I do not agree with. As no-one likes paying more than before ... and I did not consider Joe Public as part of the argument. Of course if JP was invited to participate - then the balance would tip in favour of losing the concession - why ?? Because a lot of public don't like the thought of others getting something cheaper than they .... plus a lot of JP thinks boats are rich-mans toys - make 'em pay !!

So sorry your reply is not valid. The threads previous are and they do not support loss of concession ...

QED mate !! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: It may be that some ... repeat some may not mind paying ...

I wonder if there is any issue that we as boater's, or a nation, would say NO to, draw a line and fight for. We just seam to find a logical reason to except what is put in front of us.

Re: Lets put this straight .... paying more or not ...

Nigel,

You are living in cloud cuckoo land, as well as being in denial, if you believe that!

A few people have expressed a view that the concession should remain, but if you look at the size of the membership of this forum you will see that it is a very tiny minority. The vast majority have elected to remain silent on this issue.

The reality that you don't seem able to accept is that the decision on the concession will not be made by a handful of wingeing boaters but by the Government/EU. It may be comforting for you to just look at the postings made by people who agree with you, but you're in for a shock if you don't look beyond your comfort zone.

Whether you like it or not I remain convinced, as do many others on this forum, that Joe Public would not be happy that boaters get diesel far cheaper than motorists. If you really think that, as you say, "I did not consider Joe Public as part of the argument" then you are making a case for a care in the community order for yourself.

Blimey you really take statements out of context ...

You got a problem with reading or understanding posts ?????

Of course I'm not stupid enough to think that boaters alone will decide it - in fact I reckon we will only get a token look in at it ... if you read other posts of mine you will see that I already accept its a EU / Govt thing and not from another.

If you really want to know - I spend most of my time in a country where road diesel and boat diesel are one and same and pay same price ... about 65p a litre ... but I return to UK as often as possible to enjoy my boating ... hoping to see the Red Diesel continue for as long as possible ...

Blimey - you take the biscuit .... WHAT I said was .... I did not accept that Joe Public showed in the threads on these forums and therefore your claim to them was not valid ... I also said that if Joe Public WAS included that I accepted they would lose it for us ... as they don't give a toss about boating ...

Read it properly before talking care orders ... I don't argue about Joe Public or EU or Govt ... etc. I argue about your staement that implied that majority on these forums / boaters agree with paying more ....

The vast majority did stay silent - I agree - probably because they considered it a lost cause .... not because they agreed or not ....

What is it with some on these forums .... your not the first I notice to misread and then bomb another .... OK - I have done it in the past and now I read carefully before replying ... unless a few Guinness have flowed of course !! but its a long while since I careered off course like you have !!!!

Seems like your compass is way off the mark mate !! Care order indeed ..... that's funny ....

Re: Blimey you really take statements out of context ...

Perhaps you should stop for a minute, read what I have said, and then take time to digest it. You will then see that you are wrong.

You really are on a different cloud ....

I now leave you to admire yourself and shall refrain from this discussion as it obviously is getting nowhere - as I keep within the realm of the forums and do not speak for Joe Public or the Boating Community as a whole - as you seem to be ... I just read posts / threads and comment accordingly ...

Bye ....
