Hi,
I am interested in learning more about boats and how to pilot/sail them. The reason I want to do this is so I can rent a boat for me, my wife and maybe some friends. I have had a look and some places say all I need is for two people to hold a day skippers competency certificate, some say a stage two power boating licence and others say I don’t need anything. Can anyone please point me in the right direction, thank you.
More info that may help
I plan to sail around the Greek islands and maybe different places in the future
Boat size around 40ft
I live in Conwy and we have a marina, there site has very little information.
The only thing I know I will need for sure is a VHF qualification

Again any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you.

I live near you and do some Training around Conwy and the Strait
When you have been a 'member' on this site/forum long enough (I don't know how long, someone will let us know) I can send you a private message
We can swap phone numbers and I can guide you through all the questions you have asked above
Maybe get you out on the Conwy river too!
Cheers
K

UK has no legal requirement, apart from VHF and a Passage plan of what, where and when (can be a simple one in your head up to fully noted, written down and drawn on charts)
The EU mainly requires an ICC for the boat you intend to use. I have heard that some countries require a coastal skipper level ICC.
A PowerBoat 2 (2days) will give you an ICC in a power boat up to10m
Over 10m Day Skipper gives ICC, this is now 10 days training (can be less if theory is done online).
Coastal skipper ICC add another 11days to day skipper and 800miles to get experience

Thank you so much for the reply, I will try to contact you vie private message. Anglesey is only about 30 minutes away from and it would be great to have someone local to chat to.

Thank you for the reply, its so odd the difference in qualifications that you need depending on where you want to sail. I thought it would be a standard thing. Regardless of the rules I'd like to get some qualifications behind me. I am looking into the ICC powerboat and VHF and go from there, again thank you for the input. Stay safe.
