Can I use 304 s/s nut with a 316L bolt ?

the chain plate u bolts are from 316L and I can't find 316 nut so I want to use a 304 nut instead, can I do it?

If the nut and bolt are used under water then you may have a problem in several (10+?) years time but there again you would not use 304 below the water line, would you?
