Can I replace guardrails myself?

Did the top ones last winter and plan to do the lowers this season. Bought a complete kit from Aladins Cave in Bursledon for £50 a side. Actually picked them up but they will do mail order if you want. The staloks were simple to fit and the diagram quite straight forward.

Unfortunately it is not just the UV. The 'Achlle's Heel' of Dyneema lifelines is abrasion, especially where it passes through the stanchions. This is aggravated through heavy use, e.g., during racing. This is why ISAF had second thoughts about it. Boats that do not get much use do not have that problem.
The halyard of my main is a form of Dyneema (8mm Liros Regatta 2000) but the lifelines remain stainless (uncovered, of course) .

Have to check my books ... but Racing did not allow covered wire or the common for 70's - 80's Parafil guardlines ... basically because condition of the lines was hidden.

My 38ft Cruiser Racer has plain stainless 4mm for that reason.

Force 4 advertise self assembly guardrail wire sets and guardrail DIY ends! Page 158 in their catalogue. These are not Norseman or Sta-lok types - they seem to be simple sockets with Allen head grub screws that you tighten against the wire. SWL? who knows!
