As others have said just do it. Put some shopping on your backseat, wear a tracksuit and nobody will even ask. If you want to be strictly legal then go for a short day sail as exercise or even pick a physical job that counts as your daily exercise. (Flake the
anchor chain.) And while you're there for your daily exercise take a look at the work to see if it's what you had in mind and pay the guy.

You're morally fine because you've had the jab and you're going to be careful and distance. You're legally ok because your purpose for travel is exercise. If the latter wasn't true enforcement is near non existent.

You can't possibly trust someone else's judgement on the job to coincide with your own. You can't reasonably withhold payment for weeks (unless you had agreed that upfront).

All IMHO.

Yet we pay surveyors for this very thing ?

Indeed, and how often do surveys miss things we would prefer they'd mentioned, or simply state they couldn't check something due to (say) access.

But yes, if you're aware of an objective quality standard for saloon upholstery work then it could be measured against that, as long as that's what both parties agreed in advance.

My club (in Gosport) will allow contractors to work on boats but not club members. We can start visiting our boats on 29th March. It's probably similar for Haslar.

If you know someone else in the same yard whose boat needs antifouling, you could paint each other's boats and claim that you are doing it for money. As long as you pay a £5 each.

You could still wear bra and panties under a boiler suit if you really wanted to. I know I would.

Well on the basis that, a pre meditated crime is worse than an opportunist crime, I’m not going to say whether I’m going to take the risk. I’ll just tell you when I’ve been. As for the underwear, I might need those disposable ones if I get caught!

Why don’t you agree a 10 or 20% retention and pay the rest. Balance on inspection post the end of Lockdown. Any reasonable/reputable company would accept that.
