I have recently purchased a bayliner jazz with mercury sportjet 175 and I have seen lots of videos of people going full speed then slamming into reverse and doing a nose dive then back to full forward to drain the boat..

Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPeU2KxKzJY

This is the exact boat I have here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqp-YrRW_VI

What I really want to know is, if the bilge pump fails and the bilge gets full will it sink? I also have some holes in the sides on the inside near the hand grips, so if I do the nose dive, water will get in there and go straight to the bilge..

I have seen in another forum of people saying it won't sink no matter how much water it takes on..

It may well be that the boat has sufficient captive buoyancy that it won't fully sink, but it may get heavy enough to prevent getting going again.

I assume the cockpit/bow area are self draining?

That aside, why the fck would you actively want to do something like that? I can't see a situation where you might do it by accident (unless driving completely wrecklessly)

It's an American boat built to conform with their regulations. For small boats like this the rules are that they should have positive buoyancy, ie not sink when completely swamped. However, I would suggest it would be completely trashed at this point with salt water in everything.

Well thats the thing, its made to get wet, the whole deck and engine compartment is sealed by design (I have some holes in the side near the hand grip fixtres for some reason) and it also has 2 scuppers to drain the deck area quickly..
