Hi guys,

So, I'm looking to make a whip to refill the camping Gaz 907 from the normal Calor Butane cylinders.
I called SoCal and asked about what fittings I'd need for this and they told me to Foxtrot Oscar. (Not surprised really).

Can anyone here who's built one (and I know there are a few) would you be so kind as to share what parts are required? I've had a search but the search facility on this forum is pretty dire...

Thanks,

G.

Maybe once we've worked out exactly what's required it could be documented here as a "How To" feature.

the only "tricky" thing you need is this, it replaces the regulator and allows gaz to flow the opposite way, ie inward:

the smaller thread screws on the Camping Gaz bottle, the bigger thread is used for the hose towards the bigger bottle, whatever it is.
IIRC this has the reverse thread for 12kg bottles; anyway once you have this fitting it's a matter of finding high pressure hose to match you Calor Gas bottle.

I personally made one for the 12kg bottle, and a second one with an open hose and barb so it can be adapted by whatever filling station one may find in other countries.

To avoid overfilling, remember a correctly filled Camping Gaz has neutral buoyancy in water :)

addition
to source the correct fittings to replace the regulator, have a look at gas soldering equipment, or also those flame throwers to burn garden leaves

do a forum search, its all there

Did you miss the bit where it says I'd done that already?
There is one great thread here somewhere which is full of info, its a couple of years old but could I find it?

Roberto, thanks for the information, that certainly looks like an unusual fitting. I wonder if SoCal have them?
Good idea about using gas soldering fittings, I'll have a look later...

My large calor bottle has the clip on 21mm type regulator anyone know if there is a replacement for that that would allow transfer of gas to a gaz bottle with the valve shown in the pics.

21mm clip on cylinder adapater to butane (21.8LH) as in steve_N's link and butane to butane hose
or
21mm clip on cylinder adapter to M20 and a standard butane nut to M20 hose would do it.

16643 is discontinued.

You say "Don't by Calor cylinders" where do you source the gas, then?

So they have. Drat, because it allowed you to connect to the Gaz bottle and then turn on the flow from the supply cylinder. One might try an 8888 but I bet its a L/H thread so I think you'd need a 12648 hose. they don't make it easy, I wonder why :)

Re Calor gas. I use CountryWide cylinders and there are many others. I finally got rid of my Calor cylinder a couple of years ago because I found I couldn't easily replace it locally.

You can source gas considerably cheaper than retail Calor prices. I use FLOGAS from here:
http://gasdeal.co.uk/product/butane-gas-cylinders/13kg-butane-gas-cylinder/

I find the 13Kg cylinders most convenient, and no deposit/exchange is needed ON THAT SIZE. Delivery is quick and free. (They also advertise on EBAY under the name 'Alfresco' ). Delivery is actually from the nearest FlOGAS depot ..... in my case Fawley.

You can get the hose and fittings you need at almost any caravan outlet.

Why butane? Its chilly oop north- you could leave butane out in a glass tonight. Pol connector better.

The Camping Gaz cyclinder, the subject of this thread, is a butane cyclinder. Whether it could stand the extra cylinder pressure of being filled with propane I don't know, but probably best to stick with what it was built for.
