I'm more likely to get Calor on the west coast and islands here than Flogas, which didn't fit. I still have the option of decanting, so I'm pretty relaxed about getting the first cuppa in the morning. There will likely be a price hike, but that will probably apply to all.

I think that many of us think that continuing with Calor is the least bad option. Many of the problems with the alternatives have been aired. Considering that many of us wish to avoid butchery of our boats to fit a different bottle, the problems of abandoning the popular 4.5 kg Calor cylinder include the following.
FloGas cylinders come in different shapes and dimensions for the most desirable size and you need to pay the "rental" fee for each new cylinder you get.
Autogas pumps are disappearing all over the country.
Whether true or not, recent articles on refilling cylinders have stated that the process is unsafe and illegal.

I have considered that a limited amount of butchery would allow me to replace my 4.5 kg cylinders with 7 kg ones from Calor and suggestions were made that Calor would not require a new cylinder deposit to do this. That would be my favoured choice but it is still a bit iffy.

I moved to flogas 4.5kg butane, same size as the Calor equivalent, but with a clip-on connector. I bought two hose tails from the regulator to the gas bottle. One clip-on the other, the screw fitting used by Calor. So I can use either.
Curreny using flogas butane, because that's what the local caravan shop can supply, but would like to go bank to propane, especially at this time of year.
I have 2 empty Calor propane cylinders in the garage, if Calor ever reinstates that product, I can easily switch back.

That#s what I have done - adaptors for Calor, Flogas and Camping. I was considering refilling the 4.5 bottles, as described in detail on this site - but as far as I can see the problem with this is that there is no safety checks on the valve as you use the same one over and over again. Does no one else have this worry?

Got quite a few bottles and no problem or worries so far. Very easy to see whether a valve is leaking or not with some water.

I've found that neither the 4.5kg Flogas bottles fit into my gas locker, one due to the height and other due to girth. Both are too big. 4.5kg Calor bottles however fit with room to spare.
Hmmm. I was over in northern Ireland twice this year. There were plenty of 4.5kg calor bottles to be had. However they had two different heights, so one fits and one doesn't.
Perhaps they have been trialing a new chaos.

Such a baffling attitude, and 100% the reason Calor have such contempt for their customers.

I think the sentiments (expressed by many) valid but the idea that Calor will suffer irreparable damage is wildly incorrect.

I can think of a marine product that engendered the ire of members here. Its all now been completely forgotten and members praise the performance of the product. There are other examples.

We forget or retire, new members to the lifestyle don't know.

Calor will recover - even though those impacted will be annoyed

No. The valve seals or it leaks. A small brushful of soapy water quickly shows a leak.

Been involved since1956 with Calor Gas-my maternal Grandmother had about 15 rental caravans. My pocket money job was changing the bottles at the local shop, taking them in a wheelbarrow. Dad or Grandmother connected them. Over 60 years I have never experienced a defective valve. Not suggesting valves do not fail, but I have never experienced a failure.

I re-fill my Calor 3.9's and will continue to do so. With two in the locker and one spare carried externally We have 15 weeks gas without replenishment.

By being more frugal with use or using electric cooking more we can extent this significantly. We have an 8KW Generator, 3000W Inverter and 400W solar.

Far shorter summer cruise for us last year, used 1.5 bottles. Gas was not an issue.
