Calling all Admirals

Do you still go sailing whilst pregnant? Should I give up sailing for the whole term or is it ok some of the time? Is it ok to be clambering over the decks, hauling sails and weighing anchor? Were some of you more susceptible to sea sickness? Any advice/suggestions welcome.

My wife and I have always thought that we have the only known maternity model bosun's chair. The main halyard jumped off its sheave when she was six months pregnant and, as the skipper is absolutely terrified of heights greater than about five feet, it was she who bravely volunteered to go up the mast to fix the problem. Luckily we have a sit-in, wrap-around bosun's chair which nicely fitted her girth. With the help of another afraid-of-heights sailor I managed to haul her up to the required height. Funnily enough, the son she eventually "launched" turned out to hate sailing.

A friend was pregnant aboard my boat for up to 6 months, without any problems, she only left, because she had to go home with her mum. So I would say its ok, depends how much straining and pulling you do I guess!

take all normal precautions and carry on easting the vannilla ice cream with pickles
frend of ours had twins and carried on living aboard only went back to uk when they 2 months old

We did, with both of mine, kept sailing with the first upto about 36 weeks and only stopped then coz the weather went crock. She always used to kick like mad when the engine went on....and she still prefers sailing 7 years later.

Wasn't quite so easy with my son, but that was more to do with the fact that we also had a two year old to mind.

Apart from sailing and finance I'm also an antenatal teacher and as with most things I would say that as long as you feel ok keep on doing it!

oh and congratulations by the way...sailing with kids is a whole new challenge!

Twernt me!! She had a boyfriend! I was being nice to the family plus dog!? and rescued them from an Ogre on another boat, until they could arrange to go home! Which I ended up paying for, as they had nowt! Talk about a soft touch!! My honour stands intact!! Cad indeed! Hmmmmmph!
