Cable clips

I noriced a dangling U shaped battery cable in the engine compartment when doing the usual checks. Its a longish cable and held at the top by the battery terminal. The battery is above the engine in a separate compartment.

How should the cable be immobilised. Its a plywood bulkhead. Would correctly sized cable clips screwed into the bulkhead be appropriate?

Yes, nylon P clips would be fine.

If you go that route don't rely on self adhesive bases. You can get ones that are self adhesive and have screw hole for a countersunk screw. Self adhesive great for putting it in place then put an appropriate screw in.

Where I haven't used PVC cable channel I've used the cable tie mounts you referred to..?

I purchased bags of different sizes from RS components some time ago.

Also good for supporting plastic conduit and plastic piping

My former wife once bought a set of eight framed miniature reproduction paintings which she wanted hung on the wall in a grid pattern.

I carefully marked out the position for each painting and fixed self-adhesive picture hooks in place; carefully following the instructions on the packet.

Then I hung each picture, poured myself a beer as a reward and called my wife to come and admire my handiwork,

Good man you have just found the trick how to stop wife from asking you to do any more little jobs for her so you can concentrate on boat work

Apology accepted, would that I followed my own advice. I wouldn't have had to refix bases in my switch panel yesterday if I had used screws as well, and yes I did have bases with holes.

My point was that there are self adhesive bases available without holes, IMHO these are best avoided. As the OP had asked what to use it was fair to assume they might not know that.
