Sorry to keep bringing up the subject but after reading replies to "engine heaters" and similar posts, something I had not previously considered has come to light. My past boats have always been out of water and had little upholstery to worry about, with our new boat imminent we are now faced with yet another consideration. The question now is bearing in mind that we will be onboard most weekends "how important are cabin heaters / dehumidifiers?" and if so how often should they be set to come on. Also without wishing to sound like a tight Git. how much is it likely to cost per week in electric.

Thanks for that Phil
If you were to leave dehumidifier on all the time you would have to drain externally from dehum. tank so how would you do this on a 2655 Bayliner cos you cant drain uphill to access the cockpit ?

Put the Dehum on top of the Glass cover to the grill, mount it on cork drink mats or similar to avoid scratches, then connect small dia. pipe from the permanent drain connection into the sink. Prop all doors open including cupboards.
Works a treat.

Thanks Ian
When you see it written down it's all very obvious.
I'm not really a "Thicko" honest.

I use one 180watt tube heater in the engine room and a 200w plate heater
in the galley/dinette ie low down in the boat.
I also use a dehumidifier on a timer for 4hrs per day and also a small fan which comes on a couple of times an hour for a few minutes. The fan helps to move the warm air around and also helps stop condensation droplets settling on the brassware etc.
I am also toying with the idea of putting the bilge blowers on a timer to come on
a few times a day to help with condensation in the engine room.

About fifty quid on the marina meter sees us through the winter months for this lot.

All works well for me anyhow.

Steve.
