Electric milk floats and fork lift trucks use these type of cells, also in telephone exchanges there are banks of single cells to keep the system going whilst the generators start up when the mains fails. Weight may be an issue on smaller boats, but they are ideal if you can carry them. My brother has a Dutch barge with 2 large banks of milk-float cells, one for domestics and one for the (large) bowthruster.
