Getting all a bit negative these days on here so I'm off - all alerts turned off but if anyone is desperate PM's might still send an alert.

Bye, safe sailing.

Yes it has been a bit negative and tiresome at times but no reason to give up as there is plenty of support from the more reasonable silent majority.

You contribution is very welcome to the true Practical Boat Owners on the PBO forum.

I think that I know where you are coming from.
To many threads seem to become 'political' in my view and don't try to answer the original posters query, etc.
I wish that they would keep their comments for the relevant forums. It seemed to have got a lot worse when the lock downs and restrictions wrecked the boating.

I sometimes wonder if some are boat owners

Sadly, I know what you mean. A real pity these forums have fallen into the hands of trolls and know it alls.

Your sensible contributions to topics ranging from weather, boat design, and offshore sailing will be missed :(

Perhaps it's time for a new sub-forum where admission requires people to send in a pic of themselves on their boat to say JM.

Otherwise these forums will continue to die.

Yeah you could have sub forums for:

People who own a boat but it hasn't been afloat for a long time.
People who don't own boats but charter them less than once a year.
People who dont own boats but charter them more than once a year.
People who sail on their friends boats.
People who are interested in sailing but don't know where to start.
People who used to own a boat but sold it.
People who don't own a boat yet but want to buy one.
People who have crew that sail topless but need to send a picture to prove it....

Cmon, put it down to seasonal grumps dashed with a germ of covid. It happens every year around this time, same old complaints.

Remember it could be worse, we got covid 21 to come yet. ??

Sorry to hear you’re fed up, I certainly don’t relate your user name to anything other than useful/interesting.

The only thing that spoils YBW is the ‘new user’ that steam into the forums under their latest user name getting themselves a post count in the hundreds in a couple of days.

The usual form for these is to give no info as to location, boat type, experience etc and then take some weird satisfaction out of winding people up anonymously and trolling with aggressive comments I’d be very surprised they’d say to your face.

I just use the ignore function and if the majority of other more sensible users could avoid quoting them, I’m sure they’d float off back to Mumsnet to argue with their other sock puppets.

Honestly if they tried this new user crap on Sailing Anarchy they’d be in trouble in minutes!

Quite agree, if you don,t have anything nice, positive or useful to post then why say it. As you say Yachtdave, some people just comment for the sake of commenting to fulfill their boring lives...

Hey hasn,t this thread turned a bit negative :ROFLMAO:

As one of the original forumites from 199?, I have noticed an increasing tendency for grumpiness towards the end of winter as withdrawal symptoms from sailing get more marked! Far worse this year because many of us have missed the entire season!

Theres nothing to talk about if you cant use your boat, except the weather - rain rain and more rain, not much of a topic - or politics! Thats why we have the Lounge, for people to ahve a good rant about nothing in particular! Its also why more people get put ashore after a session there.....:giggle:

It is sad when someone finds the Forum lacking in its historic value - but if its true - 'we' are to blame as I note that many of us have been here for years and some have enormous message counts. There is some new blood and when they settle in some of them will make serious contributions. Whilst I have a specific fetish I do find immense value in reading some of the threads on topics of which I know little (but should know more) and they can be quite educational. Even in pursuing my fetish I am constantly shown I cannot know it all and am grateful for the posts.

We have been lucky in Oz, we have had few restrictions to sailing and now the country is Covid free, even if the borders are locked. My wife and I are off for 3-4 days late this afternoon - so we can actually do, rather than simply reading about it here.

As has been mentioned if you have had your sailing restricted then you will have less new queries and not much new to tell 'us'. Forum are thus 'skinny' - it will get better.

GHA - Good luck and best wishes. There is always the thought - you can change your mind. As has been repeatedly mentioned - you have been an asset to the Forum.

Sorry to see you go, you're one of the people who are actually out there and sailing in the real world, always valued your contributions.
