Hi - can anyone tell me what terms of taxes would be expected to bring a boat back from Europe.
I am assuming that vat status if paid in Europe means nothing in the UK.
Many thanks in advance

Exactly that assuming you‘re looking secondhand, VAT due when it is imported. One of the reasons UK prices have gone up with it being uneconomic to bring boats in from the EU
ps
@jrudge has a good point
Yes if the owner (assuming UK) was the original exporter (no time limit) then you may be able to come to some agreement where he brings it back under his name.

Also there is a CE UKCA thing from Jan1st 2023 which I’m not sure what the implications are if the engines don’t comply with latest emission regulations (eg KAD43’s and previous)
This may only apply to people selling into the UK but assuming you go ahead, then when you come to sell (in the UK) how do you show you haven’t imported it to sell
I dunno! I look for further wisdom on this one.

I’ve been doing a bit of digging into UKCA for secondhand goods and the gov.uk gives some examples

”17. A laptop placed on the GB market before 31 December 2022, lawfully bearing the CE marking, can be made available second hand on the GB market after 31 December 2022 without requiring the UKCA marking.”

So I read this as My boat was bought new on the UK market in 2002 and I took it to the EU, if I brought it back to the UK to sell (or keep) then it doesn’t need UKCA.
The fact that I took it abroad is irrelevant to UKCA ……I think!
