Buying Flares in Europe

My flares have expired, got the last lot in the UK but now need to buy some in europe.

Are there any countries in europe that don't require some kind of pyrotechnic and/or gun-licence to be able to buy flares? Got refused in Croatia and Germany needs a "Fachkundenachweis für Seenotsignalmittel" .... Grrrr.

The problem in Portugal was a footie fan was killed by a rocket flare fired by the opposing fans in a stadium, before that it was OK

I bought a pack over the counter in Brittany last year . No formalities of any kind.

France sounds like a better bet ... it's closer.

I think the difficulty is not in getting new ones but being able to get rid of the old ones.

Over the counter flare sales are normal in Italy - could be on your route south to Croatia.

I can recommend them, bought a lot of kit there as my marina was close. It's in the sticks and a bit hard to find so enter into your satnav. Best to head for San Giorgio di Nogaro then south on SP80 for a couple of km then SW on SP3 for Carlino.

N.B. Closed on Sunday/Monday.

Saves getting knocked off by French customs for having out of date flares & you at least have them available for the trip over there.:encouragement:
