Buying burtons water stock boats

All prices are negotiable. If you are not trading in why not make an offer? apart from the usual lull over the winter boats had been selling like hot cakes . As soon as the sun comes out I suspect it will all start again.

If you are trading in its the price to change which is relevant .
 
In my experiance ( mostly boats.co.uk and Ancaster ) the dealers are well aware what a stock Boat is actually worth. They don’t look at life through rose tinted specs and they have no desire to hold stock with its associated costs.

Will they take a bid ? Highly likely. I would imagine however that the bid will not be huge as the Boat is probably ( only probably ) realistically priced in the first place and they will have to warrant it.

It’s very dangerous in my opinion and against the byelaws which carries a hefty fine I’m tools but it’s done .
When we sea trialed Andy abs Princess V 42 We insisted it was taken to the tidal Trent where we could open it up for a time that I thought was enough to test , good job we did as it overheated immediately, it’s not really the place to test a boat that you intend to use at sea .
The best option was in a recent case where myself , the buyer and Nick Vass tested a boat bought from the Thames but a sum was held back by the broker to cover any issues, again a very wise move as both engines overheated on the sea trial outside Portsmouth Harbour , it’s just a case of buyer beware or buyer just negotiate the right deal.
I’ve seen it all too often buyers buying off the rivers or Broads to be very dissatisfied when the open the taps at sea.
The problem then is going back to the seller or broker for cash to repair as most boats are sold as seen unless it’s a stock boat with warranty . In the case of Andybav there was no warranty as he took the boat abroad .

Member of our boat club bought a clean Colvic 35 in that neck of the woods , with pair of Cummins a year or so ago
No terminal mechanical faults but did take some while to sort out cooling problems probably associated with spending its entire life tootling around on tickover and then being left unloved for an considerable period of time.
Think it has been sorted, but has not been used much since it arrived down here.
 
As a matter of interest the tidal Trent is speed restricted upstream of Gainsborough. So a long way to go for anything resembling a sea trial.

Burton waters must have special permission to do trials on the Fossdyke otherwise they would have been stopped years ago.

Bear in mind some boats for sale at BW cant get past a low bridge over the Fossdyke at Saxilby - I have to fold the arch on my F33. Don't assume a boat for sale at BW has spent its life there - it has probably been transported by road and could be a sea boat.

You can get overheating issues with any boat. My pal bought a F36 from Brighton and it sea trialled okay . First sea trip after purchase it developed overheating / shredded impeller / needed an oil cooler cleaning out.

Likely that a boatowner used to observing a shoreline rather than a river bank will take engine maintainance far more seriously ?

I changed my the oil few weeks ago as it was due by the date even though not quite by the hours. The boat is mostly in river use but we will make a sea trip in a few months.

I dare say some people do neglect service and even saw a boat advertised recently as ''engines serviced in 2015'' as if it was something to be proud of.
 
Recently buying my boat from the broads I was surprised that the engineer that I took with me for the trial had some sort of special licence from the Broads Authority that enabled him to test engines at speed which we did. I suspect this might apply to other places as well
